Net Neutrality is Religious Freedom-A fight of Faith – By Rinkesh Shah

What is Net Neutrality?

So let’s get the basics of net neutrality and why it is in talks these days.

Concept is that Telecom providers (Airtel, Vodafone etc) are lobbying with TRAI, the govt body that decides how your internet data reaches your devices. If they succeed in their attempts, Internet will come to you just like Set-top boxes. You want to watch IPL, pay for SetMax, thus you want to shop pay for Flipkart access.

The structure here is so much similar to what we culturally are. The way our religion works is the way Internet and Telecom providers work. Its only when we dig dipper the problem starts.

NetNeutrailty is Religious Freedom

To start with Religion predates to all the activities which we can predate, it’s that old. Similar is the basis of the logic placed forth by Telecom companies, they are putting their big piece of argument on basis of Indian Telegraph Act, which by the way is the law made in 1885. That’s right.

Now, Telecom providers are just like our Religion flag bearers. Like Airtel, Vodafone, Idea we have Temples, Mosques and Churches. Telecom Provider decides what billing plans you will get, what data package you will get, just like your Temple decides what God you will worship, is it a Hanuman Mandir, Ram Mandir, Mahavir Derasar, Your Church will tell you when to worship Jesus, when to worship Mary and so on. Obviously Telecom listens to you and gives you customized plans, like Family plan by Airtel, IIN by idea and what not. Similarly our faith also customizes the user experience, Sunday (a Holiday) is a worship day, and your non office hours (early morning and late evening) are also when Temple doors are open.

The next step, the real thing is religion tells you to keep doing the right things to reach Heaven. Similarly TCP tells you whatever they do is to reach the guidelines set by TRAI and GOI. But you know what, who’s seen GOD, and who’s seen the GOD of local heaven TRAI. I mean we know its Ravi Shankar Prasad, but what do we know about his thinking on our religion: NET NEUTRALITY.

As our temples, churches and mosques lobbies with GOD (I believe they  should be in direct touch with them) and tells him/ Her these is how humans will behave, and then tells human this is how GOD has asked you to behave. Similarly TCP providers are now lobbying with TRAI saying that they have build temples (infrastructure) so they should have right profit share and they should have control on giving tickets to these temples (users have to buy access from TCP for the services they need), not only that they will decide if you will stand in a long normal queue or get immediate VIP access for the darshan, yes I am talking about Net speed, they want control on which site will come at what speed on your devices. I mean as if already Gharwapsi (MNP) wasn’t enough for them to get their loyal customers they are now becoming the swamis, maulanas, and priest of our single religion, NETNEUTRALITY.

JUST LIKE WE HAVE A LONG QUEUES FOR A DARSHAN, WE WILL HAVE LONG QUEUES OF USERS TRYING To ACCESS A SITE OF A STARTUP, RESPITE IS ONLY IF YOU ARE A VIP DONATING A LOT TO TEMPLES OR AN AMBANI PAYING LOADS TO BUY THE HIGH NET SPEED PACKS”

Now it’s not just about net speed and they giving access, which is still digestible, the problem starts here. Every religion gives you multiple ways to achieve the ultimate goal. Usually this can be classified as WHAT TO READ and HOW TO BEHAVE. So you have options to read a Gita/Aagams/Upanishad/Vedas or a Bible/Gospels or a Quran/Taurat/Zabur/Injeel, more you read more wisdom you get or so they say. Now if I say your religion doesn’t allow you to read all of these books, but honorably asks you to decide between a Gita and Upanishad and for next 5 years you can read only that. BANG and your freedoms gone.

Let’s see on How to Behave. From Meditation/Fasting/Rozas/Easters and so many ways but if your religion says you either fast or meditate what happens.

WHAT IF YOUR RELIGION TELLS YOU TO CHOOSE BETWEEN GITA & VEDA, LIKE YOU HAVE TO CHOOSE BETWEEN FLIPKART & AMAZON

WHAT IF YOU ARE ASKED TO CELEBRATE EITHER RAMZAN OR MUHARRAM, LIKE YOU ARE ASKED TO CHOOSE BETWEEN A FACEBOOK & TWITTER

It’s ATTACK ON FREEDOM OF RELIGION, THE RELIGION: NET NEUTRALITY

This is exactly what your TCPs are lobbying for, they are saying if you want to shop decide (pay) for Flipkart or Amazon or snap deal . The more you pay , the more number of sites you can access. Damn your religion NET NEUTRALITY is raped. If you want to chat either take WHATSAPP or WECHAT. If you want both pay more. Also more you pay better speed you get. Look at what happens to entrepreneurs, why will anyone buy a Youthconnect pack or an Ignite intent Pack. All the newcomers are gone. If this would have happened in religion no new religion would have been born. So no freedom of faith and customized solutions for you. No New tinyowls, foodpanda, TVF, AIBs etc.

Exception: Just like Swamis/Maulans/Priest have all the time in the world to practice religion similarly your Ambanis and Adanis will not be bothered about this. It’s you who will be affected.

Decide what you want, remove deep rooted wrong practices from our religion or let the Temples of Telecom in the name of investment in infrastructure loot your religion: NET NEUTRALITY.

But in the end I don’t think it’s that bad, a ray of hope is this, like we had a nightmare govt for 10 years, but comedian Rahul Baba was always there. Some Rahul baba will come here also.

OMG and PK style amazing entertainers will always be around, after 27th April when TRAI makes this a law. I am sure this TRAI regulation will be give an immense content opportunity to our net Gladiators like YourStory Video channel, TVF, AIBs and so many more. So cheers!!! Rahul Baba days are about to return

THIS MOVE BY TRAI COULD SERIOUSLY SPICE UP THE COMIC WORLD THOUGH. WE HAVE HAD LACKLUSTRE TIME SINCE RAHUL BABA IS MISSING, AND WE CANNOT DEPEND ON HIM BEING AROUND FOREVER.

IF THIS ACT COMES BY, OUR RELIGION OF NET NEUTRALITY WILL HAVE OUR OWN OMG & PK STYLE HITS, BRING IT ON!!!
